Ward 1 - [Easement replanting]

The City of Mississauga is developing 'plans for restoration of the easement on the south and east edges of the Cawthra Woods. A preferred planting plan has been prepared with the advice of the Urban Forest Management Advisory Committee.

The approval of this planting plan would see the City of Mississauga initiate planting by mid-May 1996.

You are cordially invited to visit our open house to view displays of the proposed planting schemes to be done in this area and provide your comments and input on the selection of plants, shrubs, grasses and woody materials. City of Mississauga staff will be present to assist you in the review and answer any questions you may have.

Further information may be obtained by calling Peter Lyons, Urban Forest Ecologist in Recreation and Parks at 896-5379.

Information will be on display:

[COMMENTS BY DON B. - Not much of a title is it? A person could see this public notice and not even think to read it. It lists Peter Lyons as a Urban Forest Ecologist, you know I ask him about that and he can't say much about it, wonder why?

**************************
Getting the City to plant on the easement was one of our great victories. The City say they couldn't legally plant anything woody on the easement, this "proposal" was examined by UFMAC and "endorsed". In fact UFMAC never questioned this deforestation of the Cawthra Bush. The FCB did question it and got the public to reject this plan. What is very interesting is the City reported that UFMAC "endorsed" the City plan, which it never did. I noted this fact and Carmen made UFMAC change the minutes of their meeting to include an event that didn't happen. Soon after the then Chair of UFMAC left the committee, never to return. These political events just don't get reported in the Missing News.  ]
