NATURE CONSERVANCY CANADA

June 17, 1998

Friends of Cawthra Bush & Greater Mississauga Area

Dear Mr. Barber:

Re: Cawthra Bush Forest management Plan

We have received your request to provide a letter of support for the Friends of Cawthra Bush. While The Conservancy considers the protection of woodlands and. wildlife a worthwhile goal, our organization does not normally engage in public advocacy activities.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada supports the preservation of ecologically significant areas, to protect and enhance biological diversity, wildlife habitat and maintain areas for educational and scientific study. The Conservancy fulfills its mandate by working with willing landowners to acquire title or rights on title to ecologically significant lands.

If it appears there is an opportunity to negotiate the protection of the natural lands with the city as owner, perhaps through some type of conservation agreement, NCC would be pleased consider a role in the project.

Sincerely - Victoria Richards, Land Securement Officer
