Donald Barber Friends of the Cawthra Bush

Dear Mr. Barber:

We are writing to let you know where the Federation of Ontario Naturalists (FON) stands regarding involvement in initiatives to protect the Cawthra Bush in the City of Mississauga.

Over the past several months, you have kept us informed of your efforts to ensure the best possible protection for the Cawthra Bush. We commend you for your dedication in doing what you think is proper and necessary to help protect this property from inappropriate land uses and land management practices.

You have asked the FON to get involved in initiatives related to protecting the Cawthra Bush. As a result of your calls to the FON, we have been in touch with the South Peel Naturalists Club, which is the FON federated club in your area, about the Cawthra Bush. The FON is confident that the South Peel Naturalists Club is on top of the issues related to protection of the Cawthra Bush and therefore, we have decided that it is not necessary for the FON to get directly involved. We are assured that the club believes the Cawthra Bush should be protected. We are confident of the club's position that the City of Mississauga's management plan for the property, which the club has examined closely, is reasonable. We understand that the club continues to monitor the city's positions and activities related to the Cawthra Bush.

Unless we are asked in future by the South Peel Naturalists Club to become involved in efforts to protect the Cawthra Bush, the FON will not be taking on a direct role in the issue. We wish you the best of luck in your work related to the bush.

Sincerely - Linda Pim Conservation Policy Coordinator & Sandy Symmes Coordinator, Club & Regional Support Services

c.c. Mark Cranford, President, South Peel Naturalists Club
