Mr. Ruby is one of the leaders in Canada law and we are honoured that he has taken the time to address the issue of our legal right to get petitions signed in City parks.  The Sierra Legal Defence Fund played the role of contacting Mr. Ruby and making the request for the letter that was sent (Oct. 10/01).

Also from CANADIAN ENVIRONMENTAL LAW ASSOCIATION.
The Canadian Environmental Law Association was outstanding in that they bent their rules to make a submission on this very important issue as they agreed with me that it held great potential granting fast and cost effective access to government records.  A key factor in trying to save the environment and most other democratic activities.  However, to pursue this matter in court would have meant a very costly court case and the funds were just not there, because of that the City & the IPC do do whatever they cared to do, be as wrong, be as evil as they felt like, knowing we could no fight back!

"We submit that this claim, on the part of the City, lacks credibility." - How sweet it is to have the written opinion of a lawyer regarding the claims (or as I would say lies!), by the City of Mississauga.  This is not the only time a lawyer has explained why the City was in the wrong or the Information and Privacy Commissioner Office but it is in writing.

In general how we are losing or Democratic rights

Man charged over letters to Health Minister Tony Clement.

One of the sacred trust of a Democracy and one of the signs of a dictatorship is how approachable are the persons in government are.  In this case a person elected by the pubic, to a public office to represent the public and its interests.  You may say that there was something wrong with his letters but his lawyer makes it clear that was not the case.

Complaints against Peel Police Services Board members;

Oct. 10 - 2000
This Complaint is about a letter wrote by E. Kolb, Chair of the Peel Police Services Board and which contains falsehoods.

Their CODE OF CONDUCT

OCCOPS
The Ontario Civilian Commission on Police Services, one of the new Harris-ment government commissions to strip the public their rights and make the police almost untouchable by the law.
Complaints against Peel Police;

01-049 The officer's notes filed regarding the United Way fund raising
               event, Oct. 25/00, the Cawthra House Haunting.
               These notes are a malicious work of fiction designed to cause
               harm to Mr. Barber and put the supporters of the Cawthra Bush
               effort, at risk.  There is strong evidence of a political influence
               at work!
