Page - - Mississauga News, Dec. 25/97 - Letter Misquoted, so they say [1] Dear Editor: The article, "Amphibians found in the bush rare and possible tree savers" (Wednesday, Oct. 15) was very well written, however, it should be noted that the group Don Barber is a member of is known as the Friends of the Cawthra Bush and that it was a collective effort by this group in discovering these rare salamanders. It should also be noted that an apparent misquote was presented. Peter Lyons, Mississauga's urban forest ecologist, was quoted as telling The Mississauga News, "the City has been aware of a significant population of amphibians at the woodlot for many years." Mr. Lyons has assured me that this was a misquote but that the City would do nothing to correct it or even inform the newspaper. I then spoke to Councillor Corbasson of Ward 1 (the ward in Which the bush is located) about my concerns and she also said that it was a misquote and that the City would do nothing. I believe what Mr. Lyons told me regarding the misquote but why does the City not wish to act on an error such as this? Does the City not mind being misquoted in the media? Do they not feel that the public requires accurate Information? What kind of professional conduct is this? The City of Mississauga is obligated to do the right thing and should make an attempt to set the record straight. Peter M. Phillips Mississauga
